I occasionally pick up my husband or my daughter from the 9-Mile light rail station. Twice this week, I've been told by security (and witnessed other drivers told as well) that we can't sit in the drop-off/pick-up lane to wait for them! Isn't that what that lane is THERE for? I've been doing this for over two years with no issues (there is always a line of cars parked there waiting to pick people up). It's hard to time my arrival there with when the train comes in, so if I'm there early, I sit and wait...not any more apparently! Do they really want people circling around in the parking garage during rush hour when loads of people are coming off the train and heading to their cars? I don't get it...

The main reason is that you take up the lane and block others who need to use the lane for the designated use of drop off/pick up which should be quick and you move on--there are only limited spaces and they do not exist only for your convenience. The same issue applies to the airport.

Also, a line of cars does create a big traffic and pedestrian hazard.

I would suggest park somewhere in the lot, or stay home or park somewhere near and have your other use the cell phone to call you to be picked up. A few extra minutes of delay will not hurt anyone. Also, a connecting bus home is many times available, then you can stay home.
