Hello there - I've wanted to move to Denver for a LONG TIME, but am currently stuck in NH because of the economy. I'm hoping to get out there within a couple years, but I thought I'd ask about something that never occurred to me before today. Like most people in NH, I am without power right now. We lost it on Saturday night and don't expect to get it back until the end of the week. We seem to have week-long outages due to the weather just about every year now. I know you were hit by a similar storm last week and was wondering if you ever have the widespread outages that we have here.

We did have quite a bit of outages but I believe all were restored within days. Most was restored within hours. I don't recall hearing about metro Denverites being without power for a week! That would be rare. Xcel Energy was also expecting this outage as we had an early snow, the trees got too heavy and fell over. I always have flashlights, emergency food and candles around - but I wouldn't stress about this too much.

Thanks! I had my emergency stuff ready, but my place is pretty much unlivable without heat (it was in the mid-20s last night). Plus, we're on well water so when the power goes out so do the bathrooms. I finally bit the bullet and got a hotel room. I don't think I could take moving to another place that had the same outage problems

You'll be fine here. It does happen, but rarely for any stretch of the time you speak about.

It happens in Denver too. Especially with early fall, or late springs snow storms. Wet heavy snow snapping tree branches, and falling on power lines will cause major outages, that can take days to repair.

My suggestion try to live near a hospital. Your power will be restored much more quickly.

Our power lines are underground in Stapleton so we've never had an outage.
