Heh, trying hauling a full load of groceries up the stairs to your apt in Denver after just moving there. You realize you need to get into some sort of shape pretty quick if you're not used to the altitude

The weather may help, but I don't think other regions should use that as an excuse. Canada, for example, is thinner than the US and probably than Colorado, and its north of Buffalo! And we are seeing the same trends as elsewhere in the US. If this were 30 years ago, our current obesity rate of 19% would've made us the most obese state, not the thinnest ...

We in America need to move away from the supersize, more-is-better attitude; the idea that physical work (like walking or cycling instead of driving) is demeaning; and the junk food being pushed on us by the USDA-industrial food partnership ...

In some ways, I see echoes of New England (another healthy region) in the mountain west ... people like to be active.
