Husband has job offer in Colorado Springs. Wife in Boulder. We prefer that no one's commute is more than an hour. Is this manageable? Which areas could we potentially live in?

Some considerations:
- We have children. Good/Great schools are important.
- For this exercise, let's say financials are not a constraint
- Nice to have: we'd like to be in an area where we can walk to stores (since we will be in our car to get to/from work)

Thank you!

Since finances are not an issue, I'd live in Ken Caryl. An easy route to both places. I don't know where you'll get the commute times you are looking for, though.

One of you should find another job otherwise the children will not know what either of you look like.

Sorry, 100% no.

Maybe if it never snowed in CO, you didn't have to drive the most congested highways in the entire state twice a day, you didn't have kids, and you never minded never ever being at home, you could manage it for one week, tops.

Well, the approximate geographic half-way point on the most direct route (US 36 & I-25) is Exit 189 of I-25 @ Castle Pines. However you would need to adjust that northward to allow for greater congestion to/from Boulder.

Assuming you are in the Denver area now, I would experiment with making the drive to Boulder starting around the DTC area (Belleview, etc)

Good Luck

If you're doing traditional commutes (working, say, 8-5), not possible to stay under an hour for both of you. I spend quite a bit of time all over the front range for work, and I stay in a hotel in the Springs because I hate the commute back to Denver that much. I've had many occasions where the commute from CO Springs to Downtown Denver is 2 hrs, and occasions where Boulder to downtown Denver is over an hour.

People in California do these sorts of commutes with regularity. Only on days with accidents or snow would it really suck. I'd say somewhere off C-470 would be the best option. Certainly not an ideal situations and a lot of people would refuse to do it, but of course it could be done.
