Let me preface this by saying that I am moving from a small college town in Alabama. here I am somewhat accustomed to the rent on an apartment being in the $300/mo ball park. Right now I'm paying about $140/mo. I'm not crazy, I do know my rent is going up when I move, but I'm trying to find some advice on what is reasonable for the area. I have found places online ranging from 300/mo to 3000/mo.

I am really just looking for a reasonably priced place. size is of no concern to me. my job is near Englewood area. any suggestions

Nothing here is the cheap, I would say the very bottom end on a somewhat sketchy place is 600$/month, kinda guessing on these numbers but from what I've seen maybe the average is 800$ for a decent 1 bedroom apt

An exact address would help. "Englewood area" is somewhat meaningless.

1. The cheapest places are right next to your work location. I would not recommend those neighborhoods. Many people would use the term "scummy section of town" to describe your work location.

2. Where I would look is in the City of Englewood near the intersection of Broadway and Dartmouth. Start there and stay east of Broadway in Englewood or southern Denver.

3. If price is everything, then I would look west of your work location. Be prepared for a poor, Hispanic locale.

Expect your rent to at least double from Alabama prices, possibly triple. Most people in your situation end up living with several roommates. Denver is rapidly becoming the Chicago of the Mountain West. Rent can be whatever the owners want it to be, because young kids will move here regardless and pack into a studio like sardines and pay an obscene amount of money.

You can find lots of cheap apartments just south of that location. Look for them in the 2700 - 3500 block of S. Federal. Not the best place to live in Denver, but not nearly as bad as some here would have you believe. Some of the apartments around that area are actually pretty nice.
