I'm hoping to go early March. Which area should I start google-ing first?

I'll be travelling with my wife and kids (3 & 4)... and will also meet up with some friends (also from out-of-state) to go snowboarding.

Any areas you guys recommend for us to stay in? A cabin right by the ski resort would be awesome! Budget is about $1500-2k for the whole trip/week.

Thank you!

You will find snowboarding in the mountains and Denver is on the plains.

I would guess you are flying into Denver, but you could drive.

What do you want to do or see while you are not in the mountains snowboarding?

We'll be driving from Las Vegas, but we're open to flying if funds allow -- But then we will have to rent a car there too, if we do fly.

The trip is more for the kids to play in the snow (sled, etc..) as well as for the adults to go snowboarding.

If we can go downtown for nightlife, then that's bonus, but we do too much of that already in Vegas, so it's not a big deal. If the cabin/house is nice enough, we'll probably just buy some drinks and stay there.

Maybe we could also spend a day downtown? Don't really know what to expect yet... I'm at the beginning stages of my research. What's there to do downtown?

thank you!

Downtown Denver is at least a half hour drive from the base of the mountains, probably an hour and a half from ski resorts. There are no cabins in Denver. It's a big city!

You would have to say where you're going to snowboard (which resort) in order for someone to recommend where to stay. I think "condo" is more likely than "cabin". I've never seen a cabin anywhere before.

Downtown? You can shop, go the the Denver Art Museum, Children's Museum, Aquarium, Lucky Strike bowling, movies, theater, Avs/Nuggets game, the zoo and Science and Nature museum are both nearby, tons of restaurants, tour the Mint, ..... lots of stuff.

Thank you for the suggestions, I'll keep them in mind, but for now the plan is more about snowboarding and playing in the snow.

Sorry if I keep saying cabin, I'm actually looking for a vacation home that we will be sharing for a week. There will be 8 of us, including the kids.

Which resorts should I be looking at? The kid-friendlier the better.

thanks!

Manitou Springs, CO, just west of Colorado Springs, has some old "rustic" motels along Fountain Creek. Not really cabins, but more of the old "roadside America" from the 1940's. Manitou itself is a lot of fun. Check the lodging page, they claim to have some "cabins."

It's at most 90 minutes from Denver and you can get up into the mountains from Manitou by going west up HWY 24, weather permitting.

There is some sledding in Denver and COLO SPGS if it snows during your visit; search on that term with our search engine to see the threads.

One more things... What are your thoughts on Vail, Colorado Springs, and Telluride?? Should I look more into them instead of Denver?

telluride is about a 7 hour drive from denver so you would probably not do both in 1 week. I would consider 3-4 days in the front range mountains (vail or breckenridge) and a couple days in denver. Check out vrbo.com for cabin rentals in the mountains.

Honestly, if you're driving (as opposed to flying) from Las Vegas and the main purpose of the trip is snowboarding, unless if you have people in Denver you want to see, I would forget Denver all together-- just go straight to your ski resort destination. All of the ski areas in Colorado are awesome and world class. If you focus on western Colorado and aren't worried about seeing Denver, I would check out Aspen, Telluride, Steamboat, and/or Crested Butte. Even if you were going to snowboard the resorts closer to Denver (Vail, Beaver Creek, Breckenridge, Keystone, Copper, Winter Park, etc), it's still at least 1.5 hours each way from downtown Denver... if it was me I'd do less driving and more boarding/skiing.
