We just moved here from florida in Oct and am looking for a area with some hills to do some off roading. Not really looking for trails right now, just an area to play around at and get used to it. Any help would be great. The closer the better but will travel for a good play area. Thanks.

I'm actually looking for the same, just picked up a Jeep. I've looked for some trails in the mountains, but most stuff doesn't open until May or June

The Rampart Range west of Castle Rock has a lot of neat little trails to drive around on. The Rampart Range road (Highway 67) goes between Sedalia and Woodland Park and is where a lot of smaller forest service roads branch off from, many of them are loops. I took my 4x4 Patriot over there and it was lots of fun, but actually too easy. A great beginner area for "learning the ropes" and such.

"Playing" on hills and meadows is generally frowned on in Colorado.

There are tons of trails that will more than test your skills at 4WD. Any good bookstore in Denver has many books/guides listing trails, from easy to extreme.
