To MaddieClaire's point, you don't have to drive on 6 to get to work everyday (Golden to BlackHawk/Central City). I would definitely take I70. You could easily look at places in Morrison, Golden, and Lakewood. These are larger cities than Idaho Springs and then you don't have to worry about driving I70 to go everywhere.

Thanks, Maddie. No, I haven't actually been to Black Hawk yet, but I will be in another week or so. Travel plans will be worked out tomorrow between my prospective employer and myself so I can go through a final interview and see the property. Speaking to those at the property, I've found out the general concensus is that the roads are cleared very quickly. Since it's a gambling community, much funding it directly given to the county itself, and as a result the roads tend to be cleaned up well. That's not to say the road there( I think you mean 119?) isn't trecherous in the winter. I've heard I-70 cleans up pretty well since it's travelled frequently, but of course I don't have anything to really compare it to. Where I live here, we get mild storms, but the snow tends to be very heavy and dense. Is it true that the early snowfalls in the Denver area or light and fluffy, while the spring snows are heavy and dense? I also was told of the Coach Express Bus Charters that run daily to the casinos from both Golden and Arvada. I could us this as an option as well, although I'm not sure when if and when they stop running in the storms. Also, the casino will put up employees if needed...Winter driving is my biggest concern, but I don't want it to keep me from moving either. Idaho Springs seems nice, and convenient for the winter months, but then on the other hand I do want to be close enough for some drives, possibly frequent, into the Metro area. Decisions, decisions...

If I were young (!) and single, I would choose Golden or maybe Lakewood. That way you'll be closer to Denver for some night life.

What you have heard about the snow is pretty accurate, for Denver. I don't know about the mtns. DH used to drive to an office in Genessee on I-70; did n't have a lot of problems.

Yes, 119 is the route we took to Black Hawk from I-70. Like I said before, it's a very pretty drive...but it is a winding, curvy, road with 2 way traffic.
For our drive back to Denver from Black Hawk we went through Central City.
I have a lot of photos I took on our drive to Black Hawk-if you're interested in seeing them let me know.
I wish you the best of luck!

Sincerely,
Maddie Claire

You all have been wonderful, thank you. Does anyone have any thoughts on Arvada in comparison to Golden and Lakewood?

Golden is considered slightly more "desirable", IMO, as it is a small town with a college (Colorado School of Mines), as well as a suburb. (Please note this is not necessarily my opinion.) Arvada has better access to Denver and a cute little downtown, but is farther from the mtns, unless you locate quite west in the city. Lakewood has good Denver access, but not much of a downtown. They are trying to re-develop an old area of town into a mixed use type of place, but it's just in the beginning stages.
