We are a couple with dogs and cats looking to relocate to Denver. We are on a rather tight budget (600 and under for rent.) and are looking for very affordable rentals (house or apt. but that cheap of house rentals probably dont exist.) that are pet friendly (large dogs) and that are relatively safe.

I know that no area is always safe, but by safe I mean, not many transients, vandalism, or an area infamous for being unsafe. We dont mind the looks of the area so much.

I know that trying to find cheap, pet friendly, and very safe narrows down the search result quite a bit, but hopefully not down to non-existent.

We are from Omaha and have lived in some older parts of town that do not look the best but do not have a problem with crime. The cost of living here is much lower so we are able to afford renting a house with a backyard for our dogs in an area were we have not run into any problems with safety, although the neighborhood is far from looking fancy.

I am wondering if there are some areas of Denver anyone knows of similar to the one we live in here in Omaha. We have found a lot of upscale apartments and houses online in Denver out of our budget, and most of the ones we found that reach our budget have large amounts of complaints about crime and cleanliness.

I am sure people post questions like this all the time, so sorry for any redundancy! Any help or kind suggestions would be greatly appreciated, thank you!!

$600 for rent in the Denver metro area is veryyyyyy low. Most places also charge extra for pets, I think it's safe to say you aren't going to find a place (especially in a safe area) for <$600.

Not trying to burst your bubble, but that's the reality of this area

Default I'm just saying

Median asking price for a house in Omaha, NE = $150,000(courtesy of Dept of Numbers .com)
Median asking price for a house in Denver, CO = $299,900

Granted that house prices and rents are not directly correlated, but it seems to me that rents in greater Denver are going to be higher than in Omaha.
A lot higher.

There are areas near Aurora that have a broad mix of incomes and the neighborhood is fairly safe, especially in the day. The apartment complex itself probably would have some great folks and some real losers. One area I'm familiar with is the intersection of Iliff and Quebec. Wonderful canal trail right nearby, and apartments from pretty low end to high. A little rough at night, perhaps, but plenty safe during the day. I don't know if this is a rare find or not; it's only area I'm really familiar with.
