My husband has just accepted an unofficial job offer (the paperwork to make it official should be in, in about 2 weeks). He will be moving in November and me and the girls will wait till summer or the house sales, whichever comes first. His job will be at Denver International Airport and he will be working 2nd shift through June so there really isnt any rush hour that he will be dealing with. Ideally we want to end up in Reunion, but until the house sales we are just looking for an apartment for him with no worries of school districts. A one bedroom would be fine as the girls and I will only be there during long weekends and school holidays. We are looking for a short term lease probably 3-6 mths. Hopefully keeping rent below 700 and as close to 600 or below as possible. I want him to be safe, but he wont be taking long walks in the moonlight (so not him). I'm guessing Aurora is going to be a suggestion, but are there areas he should still stay away from? Thanks for your help.

I agree with the suggestion to avoid Aurora in general as well, with the exception of the Southlands area (irrelevant really as it is both too far and too expensive).

What about the Brighton/Henderson area. Speaking as inoffensively as possible to anyone who resides in that area- it's not exactly the creme of Colorado, but it's safe, about a 25 minute drive to DIA, and I bet you can find one bedrooms for under 600.

$600? Try $700, wait $800, better make that $900.

I think Aurora near the new Fitzimmons Hospital campus or Lowry would be great areas to live. These are new developments and they seem OK to me (plus rent levels are low right now - not sure if they have short term leases - some examples below) - He could get on I-70 realatively easily to get to the airport, especially at 2nd shift time.:

I would check out Green Valley Ranch - it is technically part of Denver near the interesection of I-70 and Pena Boulevard (which goes to the airport) - very convenient to the airport. The links below show some apartments, but the one bedrooms are in the $800 range. You might find better deals out there - I just did a quick search.

Commerce City just west of Quebec Street might be an option - it is near Stapleton - but I am not sure what the area is like personally (he could cut over to Pena Boulevard along 56th Avenue to get to the Airport) there shouldn't be any traffic for the 2nd shift. A one bedroom there was $710. Maybe others who live in Stapleton can weigh in on what that area is like - just west of Quebec along 62nd.

I'm not trying to be a naysayer here, but I used to live in the areas allen4427 is referring to (as a teenager), and we still have rentals in Commerce City and Green Valley Ranch. I have to say it is not a place I'd want to live (putting it mildly). However, a single guy, all by himself, might be OK. Fitzsimmons area sounds like a good idea. I think 600 anywhere is gonna be real tough.

the brighton area may be the cheapest safest area within a half hour of so from the airport, $600 will be hard to do, but you can find decent small apartments for less then $800.
