IF you are an outdoors type of person and like to cycle, run, hike, snow ski then I would say Denver. If having constant, lush greenery and more consistently mild winters then Atlanta. Does one area make consistent visits with the kids easier than the other?

2. Better schools. Denver-area schools are generally very good and have few internal problems.

3. Fitness level of the population. The good weather combined with the outdoorsy attitudes of Denver make the lifestyle less sedentary than that of Atlanta. I believe that this is important for young children to see and do. Smoking is not prevalent in Colorado at all, and many kids and families participate in many different outdoor activities.
All of the reasons I would pick. One exception. I don't have kids, so schools aren't as important to me.

I also wouldn't want my kids developing the Southern accent so that's another point for Denver. That's just me though.

I have lived in Denver, Atlanta, and now in the South Bay and Denver easily wins. As the OP stated, traffic in Atlanta is horrendous and I live smack dab in Silicon Valley. I didn't have kids when I lived in Atlanta, so I don't know too much about the schools. I do believe that Atlanta has better restaurants than Denver, but that's the only plus. Denver always felt safer, friendlier, and healthier.

Funny you mention that. I have friends who lived in the same county as I did(one of them went to my high school). It was in metro Atlanta, in the far parts of it. They currently live in Denver at the moment and they don't have any plans on returning. In fact, I've heard of many people who have lived in Atlanta, then moved to Denver and liked Denver better. Both of the persons who lived where I did had a slight southern accent.

Default Not even a choice

Atlanta
- part of the Confederate States of America and still p_ssed about the War of Northern Aggression
- humid with bugs
- high obesity rate
- red necks

Denver
- part of the Union
- dry, no bugs
- thinnest state
- beards (on men)

I'm African-American and I DESPISE the Confederate flag. Whenever I hear people describe the Civil War as the war of "Northern Aggression", I shake my head. I think about how my ancestors were slaves and why the South seceded in the first place. I don't fit in with the "redneck" culture.

It is October in Georgia right now, and there are still bugs around.

I like cycling, and I think Colorado might be a better place for it than Georgia.

As for the beards, you find men in Georgia with beards too. I keep my face trimmed(I don't like having a beard or any facial hair).

It's nothing against the southern accent or the south, it's just my preference. I hope you aren't secretly offended. I just wouldn't be able to hear my kids talk like that every day of my life when I have a NY accent. It just wouldn't sound right when my kids and I converse.

I mentioned on a previous thread I don't have a southern accent. I never had one to begin with.
