Moving from Michigan to Denver In January. I have my bachelor's degree in marketing and management. Two years of store management.

If I can't get a transfer I will be quitting and heading out without a job. Anyone with a similar degree or background? Sounds like a tough job market even with my background.

My friends who have tried to use their management degree for something have not had a lot of luck just getting hired somewhere as a manager. A lot of places like to see people work their way up in order to become manager, and only will hire from outside if you have connections with the decision makers. Generally the people I know using that management degree are either in process management since there's consulting firms who can utilize that, or are managing some small department at a government office. The most financially successful ones leveraged their business degree to go into sales. With a marketing degree and I am assuming a retail store background sales may work out for you as well.

Either way it's not an easy market anywhere, and Denver seems to be a magnet for educated people so it may be harder to differentiate yourself than it is in Michigan. You will likely need a lot of creativity , patience. and open mindedness in order to get a job. If you know someone out here you may want to couch surf and appear to be a local (get a google voice phone number with a 303 area code and use your friends address on your resume). That will make it easier to look for a job before you officially move here since a lot of people throw out resumes from out of state, and you can always fall back to Michigan.
