Are there any amateur astronomers on the board? I'm wondering if there are a lot of mosquitos or other insects that make it difficult to be out at dusk and afterward. Also, how are the sky conditions (turbulence, transparency, light pollution)? Thanks!

Hi there,
I'm not an astronomer, but I can truthfully say that I've lived in Denver for 10 months and I haven't seen one mosquito. I go outdoors during the early morning, afternoon, evening, and at night; I walk and swim in the evenings and have never received a bug or insect bite of any kind.
I did see a few ants (but not until after pest control came and sprayed outside the building) and some yellow jackets and wasps, but not enough to mention. I have many many outdoor flowers and haven't had any insects (or fungus) at all. My flowers are the most beautiful of any I've grown anyplace else (maybe all the sun?), and I'm a master gardener.
The sky is very pretty; big and blue, sometimes clouds and sometimes no clouds. I haven't noticed any pollution at all.
This is my simple opinion - hope it helps.

I got a bunch of roses I planted about a month ago. Do I need to do anything (trim, cover, etc.)? I live at 7300 feet so it gets down to zero on cold winter nights. They are Everblooming Hybrid Tea Rose. The label says good down to -10 degrees F.

Some of them have lots of the black spots (fungus) on their leaves..

Any suggestions?
