I was offered a job making around 47K gross near Centennial/Greenwood. Rent prices for a studio or single bedroom as listed on Craigslist, Cornerstone and Padmapper are higher than anticipated. I was hoping for $600-800 a month, but the lowest is around $1000 for a studio and $1,300 single bedroom. I'm reconsidering moving to Denver and don't trust setting something up solely online.

Is it possible to afford a place in Denver on this salary?

Where are moving from?
How old are you?
Do you have any pets?

Moving from the Upper Midwest, in my 30s, single with no kids or pets. Multiple student loans and a car payment will be taking a good portion.

Would be easier if you told us how much your monthly debt payment is.

47K in Denver? I wouldn't...

I'm single and in the 50-60k range and find it barely worth it.

That much? I've seen studios in the $800-950 in the Glendale/Cherry Creek area, and other areas as well. On Craigslist.

I'm looking to relocate too but, if the prices are like what you quote above, that's almost L.A/San Fernando Valley prices, where I am currently.

Is your motto really "Denver or bust" or is it not? If it is, then go for it. But instead of renting a one bedroom apartment, I would really get roommates to share a two bedroom apartment or find a room for rent in a house. In a place like Denver with prices this high, you have to really WANT to live here. This isn't the kind of place where you move here for purely economic reasons.

Why Denver! $47k should be adequate for a single person.

but... as a single person... go where the DOUGH is. I had several friends go to Saudi Arabia, Uganda, or AK to make the big bucks. One of my past tenants is doing pretty well in Iraq (7 yrs now).

Rents are crazy in desirable locations. Best to find a gig that overs your housing AND adds a sweet per diem. I enjoyed my international gigs, they can assist your resume / earnings into the future.

Denver I can do without... 28 yrs in CO I tried to avoid it. Was pretty successful! (thank goodness)
