I used to follow Denver development very close and visit the city a couple of times a year when I lived in KC, but since moving to DC I have lost touch with Denver some although I plan to get out there this summer.

While looking at google earth at the golden light rail construction corridor, I noticed they had relocated the light rail station and have some major construction going on behind union station.

I can dig all this up I’m sure, but would anybody care to summarize what’s planned for the area?

Thanks in advance.

Denverunionstation.org gives a good summary of the redevelopment project currently underway.

If you have been out to DIA lately you will to notice the train tracks going in. I guess they will eventually run to Union Station. I can't wait for that line to be up and running.

The supports are on google earth. Looks like it will be elevated going into the airport. I was trying to figure out how that will tie into the terminal.

On the west line, the light rail tracks go down to one track several miles before the end of the line. Seems odd. Anybody know why?

Default Union Station "Travel by Train" sign off

Anyone noticed the sign (or entire building) is off at night now? Electrical work on the new building, I assume?

From what I could see at the airport, it is going to go underground under the runways and then tie in to the station that they are building on the north end of the main terminal.

On the west line, I noticed this as well. I guess it means that they are o Lyon going to have one train on the last mile or so at a time. Probably saved them quite a bit of cash.

The DIA station will be adjacent to the main terminal on the south side. A Westin hotel will be on top of the station with a plaza in between. They have started construction and should be finished in 2015. The east rail line that will connect downtown to the airport will also stop in Stapleton and should be running by 2016.

There are currently 3 tower cranes up at Union Station with another going up soon for a 21 story apt tower. The other projects going up are a 13 story apt tower and two 5 story office buildings. A 10 story hotel and 12 story office building should break ground this year and there is also a proposal for an urban King Soopers with apartments above at 20th & Chestnut.
