Default Some more data

The Denver-area housing market is grappling with the lowest number of previously-owned homes on the market on record. At the end of January, there were only 7,094 homes on the market, a 7.9 percent drop from the 7,706 unsold home unsold homes in December.
The inventory is down 32.1 percent from the 10,443 available in January 2012, according to reports released today by independent broker Gary Bauer and Metrolist.
Both reports are based on Metrolist data.

Thanks everyone for all of your insights. My fears are confirmed and reinforced . I guess I had some vague idea that inventories were low but I hadn't really assembled the full picture yet.

It's going to be difficult to factor in job location for the home purchase. My career has involved working for universities. My wife is a veterinarian. Neither are the easiest fields to find employment in. Yet neither position involves clusters of jobs in specific locales, i.e. tech center, downtown, etc. I think we're going to end up moving when one of the two of us has a position, find a neighborhood we like that's not too far from that person's job and hopefully near some main transportation arteries, then cross our fingers and hope the other person doesn't have to commute too far when the second person finds their job.

I guess there's really not much else I can do yet but wait and try to accumulate as much cash as I can. I'm waiting at least 12 months at my current job to vest in to a defined benefit plan so there's no chance of moving earlier than that.
