Ok, so we've been here a month now. Great place and great people all around. We are both working full time. And I've even gotten a raise already. The only problem we are having is finding a rental. The market is high and tight. We are looking at 2-3bdrm places for up to $1000 a month. You can find apartment complexes in this range but we have been turned down due to my MJ possession charge a few yrs ago. Credit above 660, cash in the bank and verifiable income above $3k a month. But we are still living out of the hotel.

Hey guys, glad you like it out here! Seriously being rejected for an mj possession? Just a misdemeanor?? That's cold.

So what city or neighborhood are you looking to live in? I would call ahead to be sure that they don't have an issue with anything you are saying to avoid wasting your time on places.

You made it out here and that is a lot of the battle! Nice work!

Don't put yourself on the lease. Just have the other person (boyfriend, girlfriend?) apply.

Unfortunately, if he is not on the lease, he can't count his income towards the amount needed.

Wow, really?? I can't believe they would reject you for that! It's CO!! Where are you looking at? I think your price is pretty low for a 2 or 3 bedroom if you're looking in the city. I pay 975 for a 1 bedroom and that was one of the lower prices I found.

Maybe try a sublet for 6 months until you can find an appropriate rental? Would your parole officer write a letter of recommendation? I would bet that you could network your way into something within 6 months if you work at it.

Rent through a private party, not an apartment complex. Money talks...if you have cash in the bank then offer to pay extra months up front to overcome your background check.

I would just call the landlords ahead of time and tell them about the mj offense on your record. Maybe will refuse, but I doubt that you'll have trouble finding a landlord that wouldn't mind, especially if you offer to up your security deposit a bit.

Definitely try renting through a private party. It's better for many reasons. You can live there and be responsible and when you leave you should have a genuinely positive referral. Lots less red tape. You may even find some common ground with your new landlord and make a new friend. Definitely would suggest not getting an apartment through a company. They have page after page of "policies", few of which are in place for your own protection.

Try Craigslist for a basement rental or something. Some ads don't have much background check.

But, seriously and no offense intended, but you are both working full time and only pull down $3k a month for the both of you? You need higher paying jobs!
