I don't think local news should be confused with national news.

Interesting comments. Perhaps I'm jaded, coming from NYC and Phila TV markets, but I find them all rather amateurish. For example, the silly banter back and forth between the 2 anchors.

I took it that the OP meant the local news. Perhaps I'm wrong.

I've seen as bad on the Chicago news.

I think that's become the norm in most cities. Maybe on the East Coast they're more "buttoned down", but I see Denver news being more like in L.A. where they all joke and tell personal stories, throw in personal comments, and the women often dress like they're going out to a club.

KTLA 5 in Los Angeles is definitely like that. They move all around, laugh, joke, toss out personal opinions and commentary... I used to dislike it but got over it. I suppose the idea is that it makes the anchors more like a "friend" than a talking head reading the news. Over time, you learn about the personal life of the anchors and then are more likely to tune back in to that same station since you have a "personal relationship" with those anchors. Or that's what I'm guessing the marketing spin would be.

9 News by far. To me all the other stations look amatuerish.

I was trying to point out that she should not be expecting national news to be the primary focus of a local newscast. There is a national newscast on the same channel at a different time.

I was flipping around last evening between the three major news stations (4, 7 and 9) and to me, they're all a little "outdated". Seems like they need to update their sets, music, logos, etc. Channel 2 was updated last year, although I'm not so sure I care for their "mountain" theme.

Channel 9 updated their set last year and the "music" recently, around 6 weeks ago. (I know someone who works there.)

Really? It still has that very "orangy" city skyline view behind the anchors that I find kind of annoying. Channel 2 is the only one that stands out to me as modern.
