My personal experience is with central Denver, and not the burbs. I also did not want to live in a large complex. Everything we looked at was flying off the rental market, with every place we looked having at least 20+ applicants. I think living out of a car is an exaggeration. We didn't have problems when we moved here in April 2012 (but we lived in a large corporate apartment complex). However, this year when we had more time to find a place and we were able to be much more picky, it took us nearly a month of constant searching to find a place.
