Okay,

I'm ready to replace these NorthEast 1980s (actually don't know age) skis. I hear memorial day weekend is the time/place to go to get previous season ski stuff cheap.

So do you guys agree?

Where to go?

This is a good time to pick up used demo skis. Labor Day is really when they blow out last year's skis.

It may be worth calling or just stopping by some of the local manufacturers right now to see if they are willing to unload anything cheap. They will probably not be represented at the Labor Day mega sales at Gart's errr Sports Authority or Colorado Ski & Golf.

Try Icelantic, Ski Grace, and Ski Logik. I've been over to the Icelantic office at 6th and Kalamath a few times. The guys are always super nice.

They are all making great boards, just get someone to define them because I have fund that all of their factory tunes are awful. Nearly unskiable.

Colorado Ski and Golf may have some leftover gear, but most of the closeout sales coincide with the closing of most of the I70 resorts which happens in mid April. Online retailers may be your best bet this time of year.

I wouldn't buy ski equipment from Sports Authority. Sniagrab, ever since the company (originally Gart Sports) was taken over by Sports Authority, is a joke. No real bargains to be found in my experience. Usually the same prices as several months before and after. Plus the sales people there usually don't know jack about skiing/ snowboarding.

Just about any other store is better-- Colorado Ski and Golf, Christy Sports, REI, or the many locally owned shops (both those in Denver as well as in the mountain towns).

The Old Sports Castle on Broadway( originally Gart Bros. was more the real deal) they have long since moved HQ to Cherry Creek North and sold out in their earlier roots. I shop at Sports Authority Elite however all the time..they carry Spyder..used to work for them..excellent Colorado downhill gear albeit a premium. FYI just picked up three items on sale
this afternoon at SA Elite in Creek.1 t shirt two runninging shorts.3 pack of socks..price $109.. SA pretty much REI with local offices.
