Hello! I'm new to the forum and an desperately looking for some insight as to what I should expect upon relocating back to Denver. A little about me: grew up in the aurora suburbs; working medical professional; have lived in NYC for nearly 8 years now. I went to college in NY and fell in love with the manhattan life and stayed here for work.

Unfortunately my life has taken a few low punches recently; My car was destroyed in hurricane sandy, I recently quit a good union job for a different job that has turned out to be horribly miserable. My engagement has also fallen apart. The pressure from my family is mounting for me to return home and start my life over in Denver. I have family connections to a job so employment wouldn't be a problem. My concern is that being a 27 year old single female many of my friends I had growing up have already married or moved out of the state and I don't know how easy or difficult it will be to make new friends. I have a nice group of friends here in NY but the NYC life is taking its toll on me. I also wonder how the daring scene will be for someone of my age; I rate myself as having above average looks but don't know how easy it wll be to meet new people. I have been longing for an easier way of life with family support for a long time now but am so afraid to leave what I've built here in NY. Any insight will be greatly appreciated!

You are only 27, you have a long life ahead. If you have a job waiting and family support here, and you are miserable in NY, just move.

The dating scene is good, as long as you don't expect to marry. The rate of marriage in Colorado has plummeted for many reasons. People tend to live together rather than making that mistake here.

Colorado marriage laws are not particularly friendly, but the people are very friendly. Given that you don't have a good job in NY, there is little reason to stay. You probably would need to make new friends here, but that isn't the end of life unless you have some social dependency.

meetup.com ??

Frankly, I'm a little skeptical, but my wife found that site, and suggested we use it to try to find various meet ups with like minded individuals. We'll be moving to Denver without knowing anyone, so her thinking is find a kickball league, or a photography club, etc. and go from there. Similar thought process may work well for your situation as well. Good luck.

14 years ago I moved here. I was 28 at the time. I jumped right into the bar scene and made a few friends. If you are not social now then you need to start working on that aspect of your personality. If you are an active outdoorsy person then this is the place for you.

There is an old saying among men out here: a '5' on the East Coast is at least a '7' in Denver and a '9' in a ski town.
