We have already done the aquarium, zoo, etc. I am looking to take them somewhere that is a "hidden local" place. My daughters are 8 amd 22 months. Would love any suggestions thanks!

Since you have young kids, I'm going to suggest the Broomfield Bay. It's a mini water park more suitable for younger kids than Water World.

Great Playgrounds: Westlands Park in Greenwood Village, Centennial City Center Park.

Pools/Water Parks: Pirates Cove in Englewood, Deer Creek Pool near Ken Caryl, Weaver Hollow Pool near Morrison

Animals: The Wild Animal Sanctuary in Keenesburg (40 miles north of Downtown) and check out the buffalo herd at the Rocky Mountain Arsenal NWR along the way (could be a separate trip).

Educational: Dinosaur Ridge near Morrison, The Butterfly Pavilion in Broomfield, The Wildlife Experience in Parker, The Children's Museum in Denver

Historical (pioneer) parks: Four Mile Historic Park in Denver, Littleton Historical Museum, Lakewood Heritage Center,

Restaurants: Casa Bonita (South Park calls it a Mexican Disneyland) in Lakewood, White Fence Farm (restaurant with a petting zoo) in Lakewood

Entertainment: Here is a list of cheap things to do with kids.

Rocky Mountain Arsenal: I visited earlier this spring. Never had an interest and frankly thought it was a dump of sorts. They have a very comprehensive exhibit of the area from WW2 through the reclamation project of the 90s. Outside there are trails, birdspotting, and good overview of nature and life on the plains.

Lots of stuff for kids too - I saw a full classroom, and the exhibits are very kid friendly. Would be great for an eight year old.

Just for Kids - Rocky Mountain Arsenal - U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service

And very close just north of Dick's Sporting Goods park.

If you go to Casa Bonita bring a bottle of Pepto if you don't have a cast iron constitution. The food is beyond awful. Taco Bell will taste gourmet by comparison.

There's also Lollipop Park Kids Birthday Party Places | Kids Parties in Denver, Colorado. It's a small indoor amusement park in Centennial. It's a bit on the pricy side for its size so try to get discounted admission but you can waste a fair amount of time there.

Tiny Town - west of Morrison Tiny Town

North Pole /Santa's Workshop - west of Colorado Springs (day trip) Santa's Workshop

Georgetown Loop Railroad - west of Denver Colorado Train Rides, Historic Georgetown Loop Rail Road Trains | Georgetown Loop Railroad | 45 Minutes West of Denver CO

Probably a little young yet for Lakeside or Elitch's amusement parks

Another vote for The Wildlife Experience in Parker. I've been volunteering there for four years. We love kids there!
