Oh Hi,

So basically I'm moving to Denver in the next two weeks and need a little advice on where I'd fit in.
Background. I'm 27, a designer, artistic, tech orientated, active, jobless, keen cyclist. I’m NOT a hippy, a meat head (that’s like a gym obsessed body builder), a big drinker or a party animal.
What places should I avoid, as I don’t have a gun (this is a joke, but seriously my best weapon is an 11 second 100 yard dash). And what places should I look at that are affordable (graphic designers don’t get paid much)?
Any info on living in the USA in general would be much appreciated.

Cheers

Ian

Everything cost less in the USA as we use this weak USD instead of the GBP.
But, less is not zero.
Oops, one big exception to less: medical insurance. There is no NHS. And, if you have no insurance and have to go to the hospital, the chargemaster rates will horrify you. Oh, and dental and vision insurance are separate from health insurance. Weird, I know.

Do you have a budget for rent?

So you don't have a job and arrive in 2 weeks?

What is your plan from arriving on day 1? Any temp accommodation sorted? Are you coming alone?

Housing budget?

Can you give a bit more info?

No job. Which means (likely) no health insurance. Coming to a city with a moderately high cost of living, an overheated rental market (which means landlords will not give you the time of day without a job), and a mediocre economy.

I hope you've got a pretty good savings cushion or a place with friends to crash lined up. Good luck.

This is not a good idea!

Most places will only rent if you have a letter of hire, most places won't hire unless you are a resident.

Graphic Design doesn't pay much in Denver. The most I ever made doing GD in Denver was $42k/yr.

If you have good references and the ability to pay rent in advance it will help.

My wife and I came to Denver without work but had the afore mentioned savings and references. We though, moved over from Florida so already had a base in the US.

I'm interested as to how you have secured right to work and are able to move directly from the UK to the US without a job.
