We are driving from Vegas to Denver...two people plus luggage...I currently have a Chyrsler 200 (4 cylinder) rented. I have never driven through the mountians before. Will a 4 cylinder be ok or should I just drop the extra 100 and get a full size car?
Thanks

You will be TOTALLY fine in that car. Just about anything can handle the Interstate system and most other roads as well.

Fear not and enjoy the drive.

Are you driving straight through or do you plan to stop and see some scenery along the way?

You will be fine. You will not be doing 80 up the Mountain's (but you shouldn't be anyway).

Thanks everyone..I think I'm more worried about the extra pull on the car with it only being a 4 cylinder going up the mountains. Just worrying for nothing really LOL Don't want it to overheat.

IF the guage starts going towards H, Slow down, Turn off the A/C, Open some window, Maybe pull off let car cool down for few hours.

But never had a heat issue with car driving under normal conditions. Loaded to max, pulling trailer yes. But 4 cyl, with two people and bags. No.

We're just driving straight through. It looks like it's a pretty scenic drive.

We're actually doing a cross country trip next week. Going from Chicago to Texas to L.A., stopping in Vegas for a few days, then driving home through Utah, Colorado, Nebraska, etc. As I usually do when I take road trips I get paranoid about the car I'm renting LOL

I've rented a Chrysler 200 (4 cyl) several times before... probably the worst midsize car I've ever driven. Extremely awkward seating position (feels like you're in a high chair even with the seat lowered all the way down), uncomfortable seats, poor visability, lousy handling, and noisy, weak engine. It will certainly make it from Vegas to Denver, just don't expect much.

This is a must do drive if you have the chance. I try to drive this road once a summer (and occasionally in the winter). So much better than the interstate.
