When will all Cherry Creek schools offer all day kindergarten classes? I am looking at Village east elementary school (80012) and they do not offer that option (called "Enrichment Kindergarten"). I understand that a fee may be required, but I sure would love the option!
Also, does anyone know if CCSD will follow APS's footsteps and include full-day kindergarten for all, in their budget??
Thank you

I have mine in a cherry creek dist elementary and they call it KEP. Costs about 250 a month plus 100. No bus's either, apparently we are within a mile from the school. But I am in the next neighborhood and no way would I allow my kids 7 and 5 to walk to school from the distance from our house to the school. So I am up at the school 3 times a day dropping off and picking up in a parking lot the size of a postage stamp so I am usually stuck parking in front of someone home.

The district makes it sound like it is a space issue, not a budget issue (especially if it self-funds via fee)
This quote from
About Us

"Extended-day kindergarten enrichment program - Many of our elementary schools offer a half-day extension to their regular kindergarten half-day program. This extension is not a regular part of the district curriculum, but an alternative to day care and is offered to parents for a fee. The program is approved on an annual basis after space needs for regular programs are determined."

The state of Colorado does not fully fund kindergarten. Right now, the district is given only about 55% of the money it receives compared to children in grades 1-12. Even with the tuition, kindergartens do not fully fund themselves. To offer full time kindergarten for all, Cherry Creek would have to increase the number of classrooms and teachers to accommodate the students. In order to do so, the district would have to shift even more funds away from other classrooms to kindergartens.

Why is the bus system so bad? I am so frustrated with this.

I thought "no buses within a mile radius" was a common standard. That's why I walked to school when I was growing up.

Schools have limited money to work with, especially if the voters do not pass bond issues. Would you rather they spent the money on teachers and classroom support, or on buses?

Many people in our neighborhood cut down on the car traffic by carpooling.

When I was looking at kindergarten for my daughter I was told that full day, "free" kindergarten would eventually happen for the entire state, but that they prioritize funds to lower income/test scoring neighborhoods, but that eventually all kindergartens in the state will be free and full day.

Unless I have more kids, not a big deal. My kids will be out of kindergarten.
