Denver has both BNSF and UPRR.

Just up I-25 is Cheyenne, WY, with a climate as good as Denver, lower cost of living, and a large UPRR yard and shop complex. Going east from there, UPRR has a huge yard in North Platte, NE, so between these three cities there may be a job for him.

Colorado is also home to quite a few tourist RRs that may or may not need help:
- Rio Grande Scenic
- Leadville, Colorado and Southern
- Georgetown Loop
- Royal Gorge Route (Canon City, CO)
- Cumbres & Toltec Scenic (Chama, NM)
- Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge (Durango, CO)

Both BNSF and UP have a significant presence in the area. UP in Cheyenne is typically the best pay, as they have longer runs. Cheyenne to Rawlins pays at 176 miles, Cheyenne to North Platte is 227miles or so. Cheyenne to Green River (higher seniority) is 310 miles.

Many Denver area jobs are paid at a basic day rate. One has to work a lot of overtime to make a decent living. Denver is kind of expensive compared to Cheyenne. Also Denver has a very high seniority roster from what I hear.
Both railroads will hire on occasion, keep checking their websites. I would advise to avoid Rawlins, WY on the UP. They hire a lot there for a reason, avoid it! Best of luck.

Wow this has been most helpful everyone thanks you so much. We chose Colorado because the Hospital I work for in Alaska is owned by Banner Health and they have a lot of facilities in Colorado I can transfer to. I never considered Wyoming. I love the fact that I can ask for help and total strangers will responded and guide me in the right direction.

I relocated to Alaska from Southern California when I was young and dumb and now that I am married and have three kids relocating seems impossible. Yardbirdjack> thank you for in insider secrets. I know what you mean about the yard in Rawlins. Also we are very familiar with the seniority issues when it comes to unions. Thanks> Mike from back east for all the info you suggested. I will focus on Wyoming. Lots of love and God bless. :-)
