A family member of mine is relocating to Colorado to work in Limon, CO. The people they have talked to with the company in that area say the drive from Denver, CO to Limon, CO is about an hour and not a big deal for a commute. From what I see on maps, it looks like it would be miserable and that doesn't even take into account when it is snowing there.

Can anybody from the Denver area give me some info on what towns might be reasonable to live in and commute to Limon, or is this just not realistic?

Any info would be appreciated. thanks.

A daily commute between Limon and Denver would be miserable. That part of I-70 is closed several times a year for heavy snow or blizzard conditions. it is out on the prairie and there isn't much out there. It's more reasonable to live near Limon and commute to Denver once a week for shopping and entertainment.

I'm guessing more people would live outside Colorado Springs than Denver for the commute to Limon. Houses on the east side of the Springs are an excellent value and the drive is shorter. Still do have to worry about the snow.

If I had to commute from the Denver metro area to Limon, I would only consider living in very NE Aurora or Green Valley Ranch (a Denver neighborhood near the Airport). From there you wouldn't hit any rush-hour Denver traffic, and you'd have easy access to I-70. It's still a 75 or 80 mile drive one way (all highway though).

I'd rather live in Limon.

It would be interesting to find out how many people at the office are actually doing this commute and talk to them. It sounds horrible to me, but I have certainly been wrong before.

That commute would be tedious at best and miserable at worst. It's almost 80 miles from Green Valley Ranch to Limon, and moving east to Byers or Strasburg only cuts the drive down to 45-50 miles. When you factor in the road being closed at least twice a year because of blizzards, it's not worth it. They'd be better off living in Limon.

True. I almost put that in my reply, but the thought of driving that 2-lane death trap called Rte 24 gave me pause. A worker in Limon "could" live in Calhan or Peyton or even Falcon, but wow, what an awful drive every day.
