Hey, I am from St. Louis, and have recently fallen in love with mountains and fresh air, and thinking about moving to Colorado. I was thinking Denver because I love cities, but I was wondering if you really are apart of the mountains there. I was also wondering if there are a lot of Catholic churches in the area. I was also wondering if downtown, is a good place to live and if its easy to meet other people, because I know no one. Lastly, I was wanted to know if there was a good place to find roommates, or if that place would just be the classifieds.

Thanks for all your help!
Anna

You can get to the foothills in Golden for great hiking, biking, snowshoeing, in about 20 minutes easily from Denver. We do it all the time.

There are many, many catholic churches in Denver. There were Italian immigrants and there is a large hispanic culture. They are not quite as many as where I grew up in New York but there are schools, convents, nursing homes, a seminary, camps, colleges--so the whole catholic cultural community is here--even the pope visited this city. Best place to find out about the catholic community is to go to the source, the archdiocese of Denver http://www.archden.org/.

You want to know about the religion in a community "Ask An Atheist". I may have a T-shirt made. I will give you an unbiased opinion about all religious institutions--because I do not have a preference.

You can live in Denver and still be part of the mountains because you will see them and they will beckon you all the time. Try to get a place as far to the west (mountains) as you can and still have some kind of city life too, since it sounds like you want that. Get a good Denver street map and try to look for a place not much further east than I25/LoDo. That way, you can get to the mountains faster, but still have city friends and activities. Email me anytime; I live in Golden, which is 15 minutes from "downtown" Denver and 5 minutes into the mountains.

Where in St Louis do you live now? That says a lot about you -- as does the age old St Louis question, what high school did you attend.

If you are looking for an O'fallon, we have highlands ranch and Castle Rock. If you are looking for a Chesterfield that somewhat exists in the western and northern outlying areas.

Think of capitol hill as a mixture of the loop and the landing.

Denver and most of its suburbs are not in the mountains, nor does it occupy the a place wit h a spectacular view (try Colorado Springs for that). However, Denver is blessed to be very close to the high country -- within 60 miles drive you can be at the top of the divide.

Downtown Denver is relatively safe and clean as far as big cities go., though it's still requires street-smarts. However, most of us who live in the city do not live in downtown proper because it's too expensive to do so. Just southeast of downtown, Capitol Hill is inexpensive but has a bit of an "alternative" scene -- you may or may not like that. Going further east and south from Capitol Hill (Congress Park, Governor's Park, Alamo Placita, Baker, etc) will get you a quieter but still urban neighborhoods in decent areas. On the other side (northwest) of downtown, Highland is also becoming a very nice neighborhood. Either way, you should be able to find a decent if basic apartment for well less than 1000 (700-800 easily for a 1br). The city neighborhoods are a lot easier to meet single people I think than suburban areas, though of course housing is much cheaper out in the suburbs, especially once you decide to buy a place.

I live in west county but during college, lived downtown and it wasnt the city life i wanted, but thats st. louis for you. I know that the cost of living is higher in denver then, here, so i dont want to go broke, just to live downtown. Thanks for all the help, this is great.....and I went to a catholic high school...but that is a good stl question!
