We are coming for a week arriving July 27th. I am kind of in shock over airport car rental prices. The cheapest economy car is close to $500. I have a car reserved at the avis on quebec street in the double tree hotel. I was told that I can use their airport shuttle. Any other options? I read something about an independent car rental company but now I cannot seem to find the name. We are heading to estes park. Thank you for any advice. Hard to believe that the car rental is more than the airfare!!!

Check places like Priceline, Hotwire, etc. Some will have a "mystery car" for a low price and I have had luck with that.

You can also search for coupons (I'm a fan of rental car momma).

Since I am bored and don't feel like working, I did a quick search and it looks like off-airport prices are about $300/wk which makes the slight inconvenience of taking a cab worth it, IMO. Heck, take the shuttle to get into town and then get a cab/Uber to the place with the best price... assuming you arrive during business hours.

One Enterprise location on Havana has "premium" cars for $220/wk.

Thanks. Hotwire is like $600+ for the week. I am thinking the shuttle/uber makes sense. I will check enterprise too! Maybe they will "pick us up" from bus or something.

Every time I go back home I rent a car through Hotwire or Priceline straight out of DIA. I have never once paid more than $11 a day for a mid-size car, EVER.

As long as there no major event, rental car prices tend to drop within a week of the rental date. I've even rebooked car rentals to Vegas the morning of my flight, for a better price.

You need to wait 'til closer to your trip and then book on Hotwire. I've rented multiple cars from DIA for one week and never paid more than $14/day.

This is exactly why I NEVER pay for a car in advance. I noticed that several years ago they started offering small discounts if you pre-pay when you make the reservation, but that removes the best part about renting a car; your lack of obligation.

It used to be you could get a hold for 24 hours on a plane ticket so you could think about how you were going to spend your money and consider your options. Now if you wait 24 seconds the price can change.
