I am curious where did Cherry Creek get its name from? Are there any cherry trees growing along it?
Does the climate allow for cherry trees to grow in Denver?

Chokecherries. Not sure if real cherry trees will grow in Denver.

Our next door neighbors have some sort of cherry tree. They make jam and pies out of the cherries.

We also have pin cherry trees that are native to Colorado. By the way, that picture on the "how did cherry creek get its name" link is most definitely not of a chokecherry.

Choke cherries are ripe (and edible) when they turn black. Stay away from the red ones which are bitter and can be toxic.
