Hi guys. I had to terminate my lease early and am having to pay all these fees after which is fine. However, I'm trying to figure out if some of these fees are legal. I gave notice to vacate on August 7th for the 31st. I'm being charged two months rent, penalty fee and I have to pay back the concessions that I got when I moved in-1 month free rent and $500 gc-totalling $6200. However, the apartment was immediatly re-rented and the people moved in on 9/3. Is it legal for the apartment complex to charge me two months rent even though no revenue was lost and it was immediately re-rented? I appreciate all your help as obviously this is a huge chunk of change.

As far as I know, if they rented out the apartment the day you vacated, they cannot collect 'double rent' and this money is owed to you.

Yes it was put on availabilty asap and they ended up renting it out as I was going to try and finish my lease out but I was informed it was already rented out. Not looking for the money to come to me-just looking to not have to pay it to them when they didn't lose revenue

Look at your rental agreement.

I ended a lease early with a corporate apartment complex and I had to pay extra, something like 1.5 months of rent. While I didn't LIKE paying it especially since they found new renters right away, it was what I agreed to on the contract.

The lease controls unless they were willing to enter into a modification which is in writing. If the terms you mentioned are not in the lease, they have no standing to impose the charges you mentioned.

Well I've left messages and emails regarding this and no one has gotten back to me. I want to start getting this settled asap!

Definitely don't want to come across in a rude way, but don't you have a copy of the lease that you signed? It should have some information about what to expect in the event of ending breaking the lease.
