Just a random question for people out there. Lately, it seems panhandlers are getting a lot more aggressive--as in, they've been right at the door of a business, to where you're practically touching if you try to get in the door, asking for money as you either go in or come out. The management of these stores have been telling them to leave the premises, but this seems to be happening quite a bit lately. Is this anybody else's experience?

Eh, and I even posted to that one.

It's happened three more times since then. It's really amazing.

I haven't noticed in where I live but I rarely go downtown. What areas do people see this happening? I'd guess the 16th street mall would be a hotspot.

We were driving on 225 the other day and we got off at the Parker exit. There were at least 4 panhandlers there that we could see. It does seem like they are multiplying.

Effect of Pot laws?

All the ones I see near me in the burbs are young, good shape, perfectly capable of swinging a hammer. What pisses me off is they have a dog and drag it down with them.

They are all along Colorado Blvd from Hwy 25 to Colfax. Also all the streets around Congress Park and Cheeseman Park... I've noticed the aggression level rising in the medians around Colorado and 8th.

In my interactions with the homeless they seem to be less aggressive than they have been in the past (especially 3-5 years ago). Living downtown I am already used to them begging outside doorways, at bar/restaurant/cafe patios, and I even had some homeless asking me for cash inside the King Soopers on speer once. The rate of being approached like that has gone down dramatically, and I haven't been approached outside that same King Soopers at all this year yet.

Maybe some of the more aggro homeless moved elsewhere in the metro?

Right by the front door of the JC Penney at Northfield (Stapleton) at 11 a.m. on a weekday. We had just moved here and it was unexpected.

This past summer, a panhandler followed my family into a WhichWich near Park Meadows. He visited each table in turn asking for money before management caught on and shooed him out the door with a complimentary soda. That was unusual. When we finished our meal, we saw him in the B&N parking lot yelling at cars. He was atypical for the group that normally comes down on the light rail. They usually confine themselves to the highway exits. There's also a woman who approaches shoppers in the REI parking lot, but I haven't seen her for awhile. Lone Tree does have one well-known homeless man, but he keeps to himself, and a few residents and shopkeepers seem to look after him.
