I have lived in Green valley Ranch for 18 years , it has gone way down hill . the areas close to the golf course get taked care of real well . the older areas are called the slums of Green Valley Ranch . I have drug dealers living nexed door to me , have had my hosue vandalized and very high traffic next door . The home onwers associacion would do nothing to help. The hosues next to me and behind me are poorly maintaned and especially back yards are weeds and trash . The gangs put grafitty all over and we have gang problems. They have been promicing a High School to be built for 18 years now. Most people that my kids grew up with who have high school kids send them to other schools or have moved to avoid the local gang ridden High School where kids have been killed . The amount of rental houses in the older area is real high which accounts for the trashy yards and the gang problems. If you park and Rv at your house to get ready for a trip you get a nasty letter ,but the yards can be all weeds and nothing happens. The neibor behind me has two refridgerators a dryer and washer and stove in there back yard along with all the weeds. There are good points to Green Valley Ranch ,but the home owners association is controlled by the company building the homes and has no community spirit. They even cancelled the easter Egg hunt this year because no one wanted to be bothered. They charge Scouts groups $25 an hour to have meetings, and kids have little or nothing to do here which is part of the reason for the gang issues. The kids have been promiced so much over the years and end up losing the friends they grew up with because they all go to schools up to 20 miles away to get a qquality high school education.

Default GVR Felt Dangerous

No, I said that Green Valley Ranch (at least where we live) is nice. It's the surrounding area that felt dangerous. The stores and restaurants are new but it was the people who frequent them who felt dangerous. We moved here from Tampa, FL and lived in Avondale, AZ two years before that. Both cities had a ton of diversity and I did not get the same feeling from them as I get from GVR area. I have noticed that GVR has an "older" part and a newer part. We live in the newer area and maybe that makes a difference. By the way, last weekend, a police force came to our next-door neighbor's house, arrested him, and put a sign up on his front door. Apparently, he was involved in high-level drug dealing. Now, the city owns his property and there are big boards on his windows. Yesterday, our other next-door neighbors told us they were moving out (they just moved in less than a month ago) because they cannot afford their rent. Not sure if this is a fluke or a symptom of the area. We take walks around the neighborhood every evening and have noticed that our neighbors have lots of stuff on their porches...benches, decorations, kids toys, etc. The further we get into the "older" area, the less stuff there is on the porches. I usually consider that a sign that stuff gets stolen.

If you can move somewhere else I would. My sister in law and her family moved from there because of crime. Her next door neighbor was jumped in her driveway and there were other scary instances she experienced while there. She did not want to raise their child in that area. Shortly after they moved there were two shootings a few blocks over. I think there was a murder a few blocks over while they were there too. She just lived a litte East of the new shopping area with the King Soopers so it's not like it was a run down area.

10 years ago GVR was desirable area to live in. lots of policemen, firemen, teachers, nurses, and airport workers lived there. Problem was close proximity to Montebello neighborhood, People who lived in Montebello moved to GVR and brought same ghetto problems with them. Thus, high crime rates and tons of section 8, and welfare plague that area. It’s a shame GVR was once great neighborhood

I live in Dallas,Texas and my family and I are moving to Denver next summer.

I'm looking for an area/community that is art's/humanities/nature influenced and very individual-and very homey too... with lots of mom and pop shops/coffee shops and nature opp's...all within a median working class price range.

We care about the school's too...our child is soon to be six. And we personally have a philsophy that if you if love your neighborhood naything is possible, within reason.

I seen a few homes I have fallen in love with in Mountain View, Green Valley Ranch, and Lakewood. I have heard Baker's is awesome too...

Any tips or feedback or maybe neighborhoods I should look into?

Thanks so much!!!

Default Green Valley Ranch As I See It Today

I moved into the Singletree community back in 2001. Singletree is north of Green Valley by a few miles. I have to say that GVR is a very nice and clean community. The families who live in GVR are just as educated as the people out in Littleton, Highlands Ranch, Parker etc. I have a six figure income along with a Masters degree from a University. GVR is getting a bad name because it is close to Montbello. However, Montebello is not directly in our back yard. Crime is extremely low in GVR. Actually, I don't think we have much crime. Infact, there is more crime in Boulder and Littleton. So, yes, the houses are beautiful and large. I would recommend GVR as long as you are ok with diversity.

Default Green Valley Ranch

The expansion near DIA (Green Valley Ranch) is set up for low and no income families and illegals. Each neighborhood starts out nice and quickly deteriorates to low riders and gansta rappers, road rage and crime. It's the only area where market value starts falling at the house closing. Thanks alot Denver.
