For 118 years Denver’s temperature dropped below -20° on average about every four years. Since 1990 to the best of my knowledge it has not happened one time. I guess you don’t see a trend in an event cycle changing from four years to 26 years and counting?
Let's just say I am not a full blown denier. I just don't believe in the extent some of the scientists say the climate is changing.

Could the lack of -20 degrees have anything to do with the airport moving? All of the temps are taken from the airport.

That being said I am not going to debate this. You have your beliefs and I have mine.

There might be climate change. Its changed several times that we have documented. Its bound to change again. Are humans causing it? Maybe, there are over 7 billions and they need food and fuel. I think the real problem is a population problem, not a climate problem. At this point its all just theory and not fact.

So the coldest and hottest day in Denver's history was in the 1800's. Lets use 140 years of data to make decisions on the future but neglect the previous 20 million years.

There you go, that is my point. Denver is now on the all time record longest stretch without a -20 degree day, which is consistent with global warming data.

Well, I'm glad I wasn't here in the 1800's... I bet they plowed the roads even less then. I would not have been one of those hardy plains women. Boy, they had it hard.

I believe in climate change, but I do wonder if the airport moving had anything to do with the yearly temps changing like that? When did the airport move?

Except this isn't a thread about global warming. The question is whether or not people who live in Denver are delusional about the weather. Personally, I tend to think folks who move to Denver expecting there to not be a fair amount of snow and cold weather are the delusional ones. Relative to other areas that have four distinct seasons, and snow, Denver's weather is pleasant. Mostly.

I agree with what maciesmom said, above, but I will add that -19 in 2008 is pretty darn close and could be within the margin of error of some of the thermometers, especially back in the old days. It's not like it doesn't still get cold here.

I admit I was totally delusional about what to expect from the weather here - but, the caveat is... I got that impression from what I read on city-data --- so maybe misguided is a better word. I didn't expect it to be LA, Albuquerque by any means - but I did actually think that most snow that happened in the morning, melted by noon and one really did not have to deal with it very much - NOT true.

I also expected the winter to be sunnier than it is (I thought it would be sunny as often as the summer), but I found it to be mostly overcast, depressing and VERY, VERY LONG - lasting well past April into mid May. I did not expect the heavy, wet snow (that is the same or worse than a Boston storm) in March, April, May. It really is a wet, not fluffy, snow at those times - no one ever talked about that. I did not anticipate, which i should have, all the slushy, muddy mess from the constant cycle of snowing and thawing. And the black ice everywhere that comes from melting snow that flash freezes every time the sun goes down (which in the winter is around 5pm - just in time for rush hour). I did not anticipate a large metro area like this to not plow many of the roads.

Funny they expect house front sidewalks shoveled, but then don't plow the roads or the metro area sidewalks. I did expect the cold (and I don't mind the cold, as long as its sunny, which it wasn't in much of the winter - that's when I started to look up and realize the myth (complete lie) of the 300 days of sunshine. Seems like all the sunshine here happens in the summer and fall. Also, no one really talks about how much damage the hail storms do. It is a every year occurrence that is extremely costly. It is rather played down here. Someone will complain about it, but then that comment is dismissed out of hand by several people saying how that person can't be listened to.

Plus that -19 temp was probably taken at DIA. I would be curious to see what the temperature was in the Stapleton area that day.
