Based on a MSRP for the P85 pkg of $93400, and weight of 4600 lbs, Boulder Co's estimator says about $1352

The bulk of that , $1270, is the Ownership Tax portion, which is deductible if you itemize on your Fed tax return . And it decreases year by year.

Calculate First Registration Fee

Very true , do you guys have tolls anywhere in the state or no ? Well down here in Texas the property taxes are cheap as well and car registration is cheap too with no toll roads. I'm just trying to figure out why you guys have such high registration fees , I know it's the same in CT and VA.

It was cheap in New Mexico too. No toll roads, pretty low property taxes too.

I think I paid around $120.00 for a two-year registration in NM, and the car was four years younger than it was when I registered it here. Paid almost $400 for one year here.

The other thing that got me was when I was in NM, I had a vanity plate. Once you've paid the initial fee, it's yours, no other costs associated other than re-registration.
Here, if I wanted a designer and/or vanity plates, I would have to pay every single year for that "luxury" on top of the registration costs.

Crazy.

I don't know the history of it, but just think about it as all taxes you pay go into one bucket. It really doesn't matter how they divvy it up. When I lived in PA, it was under $100 to register a car, but my property taxes were higher, state income and sales taxes were lower. Gasoline taxes were higher. Had local occupation taxes. Milk cost twice as much. And the list goes on.

Yea taxes have gone up in Texas but they are nothing compared to NJ where I moved from, so property taxes are cheaper down here still regardless. I don't know about triple, it depends what cities you are comparing each other to. I have seen some really high property taxes in CO as well and in TX it just all depends.
