Some might be surprised what it costs to live in Denver ‘comfortably’ | FOX31 Denver

Quote:
DENVER — The Mile High City is rated as one of the richest cities in the U.S. now.
And with that distinction comes some facts and figures that some might find shocking. Like the idea that it costs $82,000 a year for a family to live “comfortably” in Denver.
Some people might argue that’s not enough to do it, either. See more in Deborah Takahara’s video report above.

Depends on how big the family is and what they are used to living like.

agreed.

$82,000 ain't bad though, depending on if you have any car payments and what you're looking to pay for a monthly mortgage.

May not be asking if they can live comfortably, but may be asking if they can get the house they want in the neighborhood they want.

I think this is a matter of perspective for example the biggest living cost right now that eats up a big chunk of peoples' incomes is housing. If somebody owns their house free and clear without a mortgage they can probably survive on $50,000 a year. Whereas if they have a $2000 mortgage or rent payment every month it makes it harder with a family.

We're a family of 4, and no way could we make it on that. But we live in a higher cost neighborhood, like vacations, eating out once a week at a nice restaurant, etc.
