I am considering a move to Denver. Where I currently live, waitlists for infant daycare are over a year long. What is it like in Denver? Would probably live in one of the eastern suburbs near Aurora but I'd like to hear about the city overall.

Daycares are a dime a dozen. If you want preschool there are wait lists at some of the better ones.

We were very happy with the program at the Jewish Community Center. It's on the east side of Denver. We are not religious.

thank you! I'm glad to hear that the waitlists aren't as long. If anyone has any other recs, that would be great.

You'll need to give more specifics on location - Denver is a big city.

And just as an FYI - daycare/preschool for toddlers will run $45-$60 a day depending on age and location. $50 is a good budget number to start from. On the west side, you can get in without waiting, there are a lot of places. We utilized a private licensed in home lady for ours when they were really small and that worked great. JeffCo (again, West side) did a good job on check-ups, and making sure the places were safe. We interviewed many from their list until we found a lady we really liked and who to this day remains a dear friend.

I'd check with the county you will be in (Arapahoe?) to get a list of their people and go from there.

Positive of an in-home place. IF well operated, you get a great person to watch your kids.

Negative - if she's sick, they are closed Ours didn't bring in fill-ins when she couldn't go it herself, so we worked around her vacation schedule, etc.

Negative of a center - turn over. You'll love one teacher and not be so excited by the next. Some of the best teachers will get stolen by other centers, and even family's that will pay them better to be a nanny. Lost a couple great teachers that way.
