My husband is getting a job transfer to Golden Colorado so I need to start looking at places to live. I was wondering if anyone knew any good areas to live within 20 minutes of Golden? From the research I have done so far it seams a bit expensive to live in Golden and I'm not sure if the areas around it would be the same?...We are a small family (2 young adults 1 baby). We are just looking for a decent town that is safe, affordable, and young adult friendly (people who are not tightly wound).

For us to give you any advice that has some validity to it then you really need to tell us your budget to rent or buy.

Anything near Golden will be nice, as is Golden.

Use padmapper.com to see rentals and prices in the area but beware the scammers on craigslist.

Heh. Sorry but you may want to rethink that job. $850 will not get you anything.

Golden is a suburb of Denver. Research rental rates in The Denver forum.

Most places near Golden will be as expensive or moreso closer to Denver. Your husband isn't going to get very far in 20 minutes if it is rush hour driving. Dig hard in Golden. That is the sensible place to live. Compromise a bit and you might find something close to your needs. Rent will probably have to be higher unless you can accept small and older.

I would look at Arvada which can be a little cheaper than Golden and is a 15-20 minute drive from Golden without any traffic. Unfortunately, with 850 dollars you can't get anything more than an old 1 bedroom apartment (if they are available) and if you want a nicer place you will need to pay at least $1000+. This is just a 1 bedroom, if you are looking for a 2 bedroom add at least 300-400 to the rent.

If money were no real issue I'd go to Golden where the job is to minimize the commute and maximize usable time at home. Golden is a really nice town and there is a light rail stop not all that far away to offer good access to Denver for the attractions there. Other nearby areas are fine too.
