I'm fascinated by Tiny Houses and wondering if you are aware of any "Tiny House neighborhoods" in Denver metro? Where do most owners of Tiny House reside? Do they own property and set up their Tiny House on their land?

Living in a Tiny House sounds very appealing. I personally don't need much space, but I like the privacy that this type of living environment offers.

I would appreciate some practical information about life in a Tiny Home.

Thanks

In 2015 Tiny house neighborhood is an oxymoron. The smallest house one can build on permanent foundation and meet all building codes is about 600 sq ft. The tiny house people get around that by building the tiny house on the back of flat bed trailer. Tiny houses are essentially fancy mobile homes. In theory one could park their tiny house in a mobile home park, and I suppose some do, but then you are just living in a mobile home park surrounded by junky old mobile homes. They are not popular enough to have a dedicated mobile park for tiny houses. And maybe there are upscale mobile parks in FL, but I do not believe there are any near Denver. The few tiny houses I have seen in Colorado have been in remote mountain areas, someone that owns a 2+ acre lot parks their tiny house on it.

The hardest part of living in a tiny house is finding a place to park it. There have been a few people who have tried to park them in my Boulder neighborhood either in the street, driveway, or backyard, but the city is quick to get them out. You really need a rural lot, and there aren't that many of those available and affordable.

I could see a tiny home up in the mountains. Possibly as a hunting cabin or something like that.

My son is fascinated by the tiny houses we've seen on Tiny House Hunters, etc. We may have to head down to the Springs to check out the Tiny House Jamboree!

Even with a rural lot you'll run into problems. Most counties have restrictions on how long a temporary / mobile structure can sit in one place. I imagine there are exceptions to mobile home parks. Though, I bet you could probably build one in some place like Custer county that hasn't adopted a building code.

Good luck figuring out where to place your tiny home in some place in the Denver area...
