My son will be relocating to Denver for a job soon. He will be teaching in one of the Denver high schools. Does anyone know of any good apartment complexes that are on a good street, that is clean, bed bug and roach free? From what I can gather from Yelp reviews, the higher the rent, the better the apartment building and area.

The Denver public school system puts out a brochure that includes a few apartment complexes, but the reviews about them were consistently awful.

Craigslist hasn't been helpful regarding house shares, apartments, etc.

If anyone can help with this, it would be greatly appreciated.

Does Denver even have roaches and bed bugs? They exist here in Santa Fe, but you kind of have to go out of your way to have them.

I had six different apartments in NYC, one of which had a roach problem. It's a complete crapshoot there -- you can be directly above a bar/restaurant and have no bugs to speak of, and you can be in an apt. with no food in sight and have a roach infestation.

Craigslist and Padmapper are the best resources for finding apartments. Can you explain why they've been unhelpful? There are telltale signs of vermin that I know to look for when viewing apartments; will your son have some time to see several apartments before committing?

Denver ranks 8th in the nation for bedbugs. Check Bed Bug Registry before signing a lease. What's his housing budget and in what part of town will he be working?

I honestly don't have recommendations for avoiding bed bugs. In my many years of renting though, it was never a problem.

As far as roaches, yes, they do exist, but you'll be lucky if you ever see them. The only place I saw them was when I worked in a 32 story office building and about once a year, I would see one scurry across the floor of the bathroom. I have never seen them outside of that.

His budget is about $1150/month for a studio or a one-bedroom apartment. And he will be working in the Capitol area.

Thank you for your help or advice.
