Hi All,
I am considering relocating from Oregon to Colorado, specifically Centennial or nearby areas. Work address would be E. Geddes Ave near Centennial Airport. Hoping to find an affordable neighborhood with good schools under 30 minute commute. What do you recommend?

How is the quality of life there especially for raising children? Are there any particular areas that have really great schools and low crime? Preference for an established residential neighborhood with single family detached homes with a yard and no HOA fees.

Thanks for your help!

Hi anngold, first thing to be aware of is if you'll be working near Centennial airport, Englewood is only a postal address. The actual city of Englewood and its residential areas are miles away. Your best bet is the city of Centennial with many established neighborhoods, great schools, and a wonderful community.

I live in the far western edge of Centennial and commuted to work near Centennial Airport for years. The drive took about 20-25 minutes each way on a normal day using Arapahoe Road, a main arterial in the area. Southeast Aurora might also be a good choice with very nice neighborhoods but I have no experience with the drive time from there. Good luck in your move!

I used to work out in that area and agree that Centennial seems like a nice place to live a suburban life. Don't miss The Perfect Landing restaurant right at the airport, one of my favorites!

What is your budget?

There are a TON of great neighborhoods meeting your criteria within an easy commuting distance to Centennial airport. However, I guess that most, if not all, have HOAs.

Housing budget is the problem - looking to stay around $300K. I don't want to add a $200 or $300 a month HOA fee to that. An HOA fee under $100 would be doable.

Thanks to all who have replied thus far. It really helps.

Yeah, that price range is going to be a problem. You are looking at townhouses for that price range, and they will have an HOA in the 300ish range.

I wonder why that is, given that Aurora, Greenwood Village, and Centennial are all right there?

If you look in the eastern part of Centennial, in the 80015 zip code, you might find something. Check out neighborhoods such as Smoky Ridge, Saddle Rock Ridge, Jackson Farm, Park View. They will probably need some updating, but it might be doable.

This goes back many years before there was a Greenwood Village or Centennial. There were always outlying areas of Arapahoe County that were unincorporated into any city. They needed a post office mailing address and Englewood (an early town in the area) was it basically by default.

This is very similar to Centennial's history. Before it was incorporated our mailing address was Littleton even though we didn't live in the city limits. I still get mail addressed to Littleton or even Greenwood Village (across the street) but it still gets delivered.

Is that the area near the Home Depot off of Smokey Hill and E470? If so, I agree that is a good place to look. My in laws are over there.
