Not an option.
Who knows my kid may run for president later on.

Still deciding on the numbers.

Looks like existing expensive $1400/month Cobra plan is very good with only $250-$500 per hospital stay but doctor/nurse bills may not be covered fully and they can't tell me unless I activate the plan by paying almost $4000 in premiums.

I checked other Kaiser plans in market place with cheaper monthly premium but high OOP that I need to research more on how that applies to having a baby.
Still have few weeks to decide.

I have paid over $70,000 in health insurance in last 10 years and been to doctor twice for regular checkup.
That's a small house.
Damn why the health insurance is so freaking expensive?
All those sick that we have to pay for I guess.

When I was pregnant with my first, we moved from FL to TX for my husband to start his practice. The move was planned before I even got pregnant, staying in FL was not a consideration etc etc.

Of course, my pregnancy was not covered under insurance since it was a pre existing condition. Private insurance plans offered no maternity care anyway. So, I paid over 10,000 cash out of pocket. And that was for a completely routine vaginal birth. If you have a delivery with complications, and/or your infant needs to be in the NICU, then you could easily be looking at tens and tens of thousands of dollars.

You cannot take that risk. Of course, as you know, that's why the entire insurance industry exists in the first place, and yes, it is incredibly frustrating that you have paid all those premiums and not utilized services as others have. Even more frustrating are the reasons behind why some of those people are using the services in the first place, but that's a whole different thread.

Good luck and congrats on the baby.

A business that relies on federal government payments is not one that is long for this world.

If the insurance company is insolvent, who will end up paying for covered services?

Sadly, unless there's some intervention from the feds/state, probably the policyholders.

Given your current situation I would strongly consider COBRA, but I think much of that depends on how good your COBRA policy would be. We went through this last year and opted for one of the Kaiser plans, but even Kaiser's best plan didn't come close to the large group policy we used to have, where our deductibles were next to nothing. Good Luck

I think I posted this in the wrong thread. Sorry for any confusion. I think most of the confusion was on my part though.
