In red below.........that has/does happen in downtown Denver and areas around it. I read KUSA 9 news online and it does happen.

And, if you was to talk to the DPD, they would tell you just how much of a "war zone" Denver can actually be. The original post was about a report put out talking about the high rise of crime in Denver in 2015. Denver, like other big cities, isn't a "rose garden"! Crime and gangs persist.

I mean...the tone of the original post would have some folks believe the city is of Denver is becoming a war zone. I watch the CBS 4 news every day at 5. Yesterday the lead story was a water main break in Boulder. That is a good thing.

Other big city's often have the local news begin with segments on a homicide multiple times a week.

A person's age can definitely play a part in it. The younger generation are much more braver than people in their 60's and above. Even though we don't, wife and I would walk around our apartment complex after dark. But, to walk outside our complex after dark........nope, no way. And, we live in one of the safer parts of the city (not Denver).
I completely disagree, I mean really couldn't disagree more. And I *actually* live in Denver LOL

I live in North Park Hill, which years ago was really a place you wouldn't want to walk around in. Now we walk our dog, walk to the store, ride our bikes. Never a problem. We do have some property crime but I mean come on, maybe if you live in some small town in FL you consider Denver to be dangerous but I guess coming from NYC this place is like a giant freaking cupcake

Now, OP you do NOT live in Denver yet. Right, you used to live here long ago that's great but right now all you see is the news. I think we all know the news is all about fear mongering and panic inducing broadcasts because let's be honest that is what keeps people glued to the TV. The reality is ALWAYS vastly different.

I hear you. And yes, crime does happen. I'm just trying to make a point that, having lived in other cities (Seattle, DC, Charlotte), Denver is pretty quiet in comparison when it comes to crime.

Yes, people are mugged. And yes, there are gang shootings. But to put things in perspective: Denver has 6 homicides so far in all of 2016.....well 38 people were shot in Chicago IN ONE DAY http://chicago.suntimes.com/crime/7/...kend-shootings

Don't mean to sound morbid, but 6 homicides thus far in 2016 is an incredibly acceptable number when you compare the number of murders in Chicago, DC, Houston, Oakland, LA, Miami, Atlanta, New York, Philadelphia, Baltimore, New Orleans, Memphis, Camden, St Louis, etc, etc, etc.

If you are talking about daytime things (store, riding bikes, walking the dog), that can be very different, in some areas, than doing those things after dark.

If you ever get the chance, ask a Denver Officer how the crime is there. You could be shocked at what he tells you about crime there. Could be just like what the news reports.

Or it could be not even close to what the news reports.

I think better than asking an officer I might go ahead and ask the people who actually live here. Oh and I might look at my own feelings of safety since I actually live here.
Oh wait, I already did before moving.

Again coming from small town in Florida (I am just making an assumption here) your perception of what is unsafe might be very different than mine own but to each his own.

I do assume that you've already spoken to police officers here about crime and that's why you are proposing I do the same right?

BTW, we don't live in a small town in Florida. Our Police Chief and Mayor are extremely concerned about all the crime/murders that happened here during just the first month of this year.

Yea, sounds like the OP is looking for validation rather than a discussion. Sorry, can't rep you again

The report that came out, and I originally posted about, tells about the crime there last year and about trying to reduce it. This Report is validation about the crime spike there last year. Just like here, I don't think a lot of people pay attention or even care about it. Your ever increasing population proves that!

When we move back, we won't be living in Denver proper anyway.
