If you are thinking of moving here, you need to understand the major fact of life about greater Denver: housing costs (buy/rent) are much higher than in greater Phoenix. Look at //www.city-data.com/forum/denve...-charts-8.html for data.

Same:
other aspects of cost of living
dryness, brownness
water is expensive

Different:
Winter - some, not many, snow days
Politics - already a purple state as opposed to trending to purple
Marijuana - you won't be sent to federal prison for smoking a J
Sheriff - we have nothing close to Joe Arpaio

I regret that Denver isn't in the mountains. I don't like the gloom on gloomy days. I wish the air was a little heavier. A bit more green and/or water wouldn't hurt either.

Some of the natives can be pretty hostile when defending their state. The culture is pretty drab, and stereotypes are kind of expected to be upheld.

The pot culture is a bit pervasive. The Broncos culture is a bit pervasive.

Diana DeGette. Cory Gardner. TABOR. Toll roads and lanes.

I have more positives than negatives.

Haha, Sorry our culture seems drab to you, and the fact that the Broncos won the Super Bowl seems pervasive. Everything is subjective, I personally love the Broncos and how big they are in this city. As far as Marijuana goes, I have found that if you don't want to be involved, then don't. If you were going to complain, I guess you should have checked first to see if Denver really is in the mountains. Or maybe, you can just move to the mountains? Consider this a not-so-hostile defense of Our state.

East coast transplant, moved here in 2011. Love it here, don't plan on leaving for at least 20 years.

It's a lot more expensive to live here now, but a really nice place to live. Lots of sunshine, plenty to do, great sports town, lots of fit women in yoga pants ( ), and legal weed ( )

Well, I guess if you don't like it there is one way out of this boring, uncultured place.

My sister and I are both from St. Louis originally and now both live here (I've been here 18 years and lived in a variety of places around the world, she moved here about a year and a half ago and only ever lived in St. Louis before.)

Her lists:

Positive:

Mountains (the child is in RMNP every chance she gets. I figure if she ever falls off a mountainside and dies, she'll at least have died happy)
Health conscious
More options for vegetarians
Lot of hiking/running trails (she does half-marathons--she's very pleased with how many running events there are here)
Less crowded
More 'do your own thing' in regards to personal/political beliefs than back home

Negative:

She swears nobody in Denver knows how to drive. (I haven't lived in St. Louis for 18 years, so I don't know what her basis of comparison is.)
Dry air (she did have a lot of problems with bloody noses when she first moved here.)
Not a baseball town, and it's the Rockies instead of the Cardinals anyway
She gets homesick and misses her friends, but I think that'd be true for anybody who makes the move
Cost of living (she lives with me, and she doesn't mind, but it does bug her a bit that if not for that, she couldn't afford to be out here)
Misses huge bodies of water and more frequent rains
