Thanks for the follow-up. Personally I would skip the 16th Street Mall. I used to work down there and it was dirty and had a lot of homeless people hanging out. Not many good stores to look at. Larimer Square would be a lot better.

ITA about Larimer Square, but with Union Station and 16th St close by, you could do them all. Or take the bus part of the way down 16th to Marlowe's which can be a good place for lunch. The building it's in, the Kitteredge Bldg, was Denver's first skyscraper and has a fabulous history. The manager has been known to give guided tours to restaurant patrons upon request. A lot of the woodwork in the restaurant area is original.

Weekend days at Garden of the Gods can be a zoo during tourist season so the earlier the better. Hope you can get a parking spot and take the walk.

Have fun!

ETA: oops, just realized that your Denver day probably already happened. Hope it was good!

If it hasn't, definitely hit Union Station.

If she's into comics, sci-fi/fantasy movies, art, reading, board/table top games or videogames, take her to Denver Comic Con. Going on until Sunday.

I think previous suggestions about the Broadmoor are perfect. After a hot day (Manitou, Garden of the Gods, etc.) it's a perfect place to go for drinks or dinner.

Well, Denver Day involved Cherry Creek. We hit the mall and the shopping area - mom loved it. Ended up having dinner with a friend of mine at Vinue, which was wonderful. We just drove Garden of the Gods on Saturday - it was beautiful. Cog rail was not such a big hit - mom had a real problem with the altitude, and was too tired to hang out in Manitou Springs afterwards.

Overall the trip went well though - thanks for all the suggestions!

Thanks for the follow-up. Hard enough deciding what do with my own Mom, much less someone's Mom who we know nothing about.

I'm glad most of the visit went well. Your comment about the cog rail interested me as I'm having visitors soon and I could see one of them having altitude issues there. We should probably nix that.

Note that some folks have a hard time with altitude, and some don't. But regardless, it's a good idea to tell visitors to drink lots and lots of water and take aspirin to thin the blood. Both can help mitigate possible altitude sickness.

Try a short drive first - maybe to Idaho Springs or Black Hawk ... see how your visitors do with that.
