I'm going to visit Denver in October, and I want to hike the Rockies. I know of at least one trail that closed after September, but are they all closed, and what are the chances of being snowed in if I head out to go hiking?

October's weather is quite variable, that's about all that one can say about it.

This. Hiking weather down on the flat will be perfect if we haven't had any snow. If you're thinking about an alpine hike (like a 13er/14er), however, the odds of having decent trail conditions and weather will be considerably lower.

I'm not really following you... And I can't for the life of me remember the name of the trail I took 6 years ago, but it led me to Dream Lake.

What category would that fit into?

And when you say a 12er/14er, or you referring to 1,300 and 1,400 feet?

Essentially I'm saying the hiking near Denver (typically below 10,000 feet) will be good unless we've just gotten snow. Then it could be muddy, snowy, and/or icy.

13ers/14ers are peaks above 13,000'.

Dream Lake is in Rocky Mountain National Park at roughly 10,000'. That trail should still be open because the road to the trailhead is open year-round (weather permitting).
