Is Cherry Creek more of a suburb or an urban area? I'm from Dallas (moving to Denver) but get the feeling that Cherry Creek is like the Highland Park of Dallas. Highland Park has a Dallas mailing address, but its this tight community within Dallas with its own school district, police force, mayor, taxes, etc.

Or maybe I'm completely wrong and Cherry Creek is a suburb relatively close to downtown Denver.

Cherry creek is a neighborhood in Denver. It is upper middle class +. Shopping, restaurants, big box stores, hotels, etc. Most of Denver outside the downtown urban core is suburban in nature. I think it has to do with when Denver was building housing.

Cherry Creek is also a suburban school district. It's the name of the school district, not of a particular city or town - multiple localities fall within the Cherry Creek School District. But not the Cherry Creek neighborhood of Denver, as that is part of the Denver Public School district.

Cherry Creek is also a stream of water that exits the Cherry Creek Dam and flows into the South Platte River,

Cherry Creek (and maybe Country Club also) is probably the closest Denver comes to a place like Highland Park, but Cherry Creek seems a little less insular than the Highland Parks, University Parks, Preston Hollows etc, if that makes sense.

Thank you. This is what I was confused about. Cherry Creek is a neighborhood within Denver (like Highland Park within Dallas kind of) and Cherry Creek is a school district and not necessarily a city or town. Greenwood Village is one of the areas that feeds into the Cherry Creek school district. I think I'm getting it now

Keep in mind also that Cherry Creek is used interchangeably with a lot of areas between the neighborhood (Cherry Creek near University and 1st Ave.) and southeast to the state park (Cherry Creek near Hampden and Havana). There are lots of apartments and shops that will incorporate the term "Cherry Creek" in their names and aren't technically in the neighborhood of Cherry Creek which, as another poster indicated, is kind of posh, upper middle class.

Cherry Creek is a creek that originates NW of Monument before it flows into the reservoir, not just after it exits the reservoir.
