People I know who were buying homes at the time could find places in the metro around $250k or less fairly easily.

Now it's nearly impossible to find rents under $700/mo. unless you live with roommates. It's nearly impossible to find a SFH under $300k. I'd say that in the last 3-4 years or so, Denver and the Front Range have really turned into California-Lite. It's not a bargain like it had been in years past that I lived here. There are still some bargain areas out there, like I explained in my post above, but many people are seeking out what is trendy and what has the name recognition. Wash Park, Highlands, Congress Park, Stapleton, Baker, LoHi, etc. Trendy communities that have been advertised well by realtors and developers, but that don't necessarily offer that much more than some of the bargain communities.
When we moved here in 1980, rents were about twice, at least, what they were in Champaign, IL. I don't know about house prices b/c we weren't in the market. But we were shocked. We got over it though. We'd much rather live here than Champaign.

Had a friend when I was a kid who lived on that block. It is very nice.

I'm not chiming in on dave's question.

Have you looked into Castle Rock, Parker, Highlands Ranch?

Well then,

Apparently I am being asked to potentially move out there in the next two months or less. So much for home shopping all summer. This thread has helped us a lot for sure. Looks Like I will be house shopping later this month and early next month!

Good luck. The market is already heating up. For sale signs are up popping up like weeds.

I'll now be working with a relo company as well, so we'll see just how much help they are in this endeavor!

Check out the south Aurora and east Centennial neighborhoods of Park View and Saddle Rock Ridge, anywhere from Biscay Rd east to Gun Club Rd, between Smoky Hill Rd and Quincy. The prices are less here and the homes are older, but the neighborhoods are fine.

ETA:

Zip 80015. For example, these areas:

Check out Englewood. It's not far from the DTC and you can easily find a house in your range. They are older houses and many are bungalows, so you need to be OK with that.

Good luck with the house hunt OP! I'm still curious what your price range actually is, since I don't think you've ever really said so, just that you didn't think 350K was within reach, but not what number you were actually comfortable with.
