I currently live in Centennial and the morning commute from my place to my office on Colorado Blvd is about an hour. It's only 11 miles, but it's a slow 11 miles! It wasn't anything like this just a few years ago, but it appears to be getting worse every month.

We are considering moving out of the metro area altogether just to get a break from the traffic. What are the best rural mountain communities to raise kids in within an hour or so of Denver?

Rural and within an hour or so is kind of difficult.

Do you consider Evergreen rural? How about the small communities near Turkey Creek off of 285?

Bailey is rural - but it will take 2+ hours to get to and from work.

Just out of curiosity and research purposes, would you mind saying Colorado BLvd and what? Are you taking 470 or side streets? We are looking the Centennial area but work would be near DTC so it's not the same direction but I'm interested in getting a feel for the area. Thanks!

Centennial to DTC is easy.

OP, could you please clarify your job situation. Would you be looking for work in this "rural mountain community"? What part of Denver do you want to be within an hour of?

Are you planning on working from home at all since you'll be farther away (i.e. - do you need good internet)? This was an issue for us when we were house hunting and looked west/ in some of the mountain communities, so might narrow your search...

Maybe check out the North side of Denver, commutes from cities like Thornton, Westminster, Broomfield are not as crazy as from the Centennial area.

Trying to answer a couple of the questions... I own my own business, so I can commute into Denver once or twice a week. My current drive is basically from Centennial to Colorado Blvd and I25 because my main office is only a couple blocks off the interstate. I like Evergreen and it's actually at the top of our list, but I don't know much about what it's like for raising kids. I've heard the schools are good, but that's about it.

We have a realtor who is a regular poster and lives in Evergreen with a family named alliern. She would be a good resource on what it's like to raise a family there.
