You are a little confused. Mama Leone's was a very famous Italian Restaurant in New York City for Years. So, it is understandable that you would have confused it with a similar named restaurant in Denver in the 1990's. It was Cucina Leone. It was on University in the Bonnie Brae area. It was owned by Jan Leone. She was the ex wife of Jack Leone. Now, if my memory is correct, Jack and Jan Leone owned Cafe Giovanni in the 1990s and it was a very popular restaurant on Market Street in Denver. After, they separated, Jan opened her own restaurant, Cucina Leone.

Now I think I am correct because I ate at Cafe Giovanni numerous time and Jack was a CIA grad, as I am.

Default Jack Leone's Restaurant Al Fresco

Can anyone give me information on how long it was in existence and any other details? I saw something that indicated it was opened in 1985, but I couldn't find anything else about it. Thanking you in advance...

Default Moma Leone's

Here's the story. I managed Cafe Giovanni and Alfresco for Jack Leone for a period of time. Jack and Janet Leone were married at one time. Together they opened Cafe Giovanni in either the late 70's or early 80's. They divorced probably in 83, or 84. Jack retained the restaurant and in 1985 opened Alfresco alongside Cafe Giovanni. They eventually closed in the early 90's for reasons I won't go into. Jack left town for a period of time and went back to Detroit. At some point he returned and opened Cucina Leone on South University. It was good, but didn't last long for whatever reason. His ex wife Janet also opened a restaurant on East Colfax called Janet Leone's and I believe it is closed as well. My dates on those two restaurants are foggy, but I could probably figure them out if I had to. I think Jack also had a similar concept to Cucina Leone by the same name in the Detroit area as recently as 2004, but I could be wrong.

By the way, Jack was a great chef. A lot of people found him hard to work for, but I liked the guy. Denver could use more like him.

Hi, Jerad-thank you for the post!!! I sent you a direct message with a link to the amnesia case...I would love to be able to pick your brain a bit about suppliers, the day to day of the restaurant and frequent patrons if that is possible....

Well, That jack sure skrewed a bunch of us workers back in the '90 by screwing the 18 year old hostess instead. I dont blame him, she WAS hot. So anyway, he sure knew how to cook. I dont know if it was his own talent or he stole the recipes from other chefs-BUT the food was great and the péace was clean ALWAYS. my man is right-DenCo could use some more like jack But without the screwing over the employees
